In a new book by Steve Waksman, This Ain’t the Summer of Love: Conflict and Crossover in Heavy Metal and Punk. It seems that Waksman, who teaches both music and American studies at Smith College, posits that, too often, the two genres are culturally and musically considered as autonomous entities, and should be examined as an aggregate.
